10 things you need in your festival kit

Hey everyone,

So festival season is truly upon us. I’m off to V Festival in just over a week and I cannot wait! I won a competition last month which was held by Fluorescent PR to win a Limited Edition Festival Kit. I was in shock that I won and it honestly is amazing. So i’ll show now what’s inside. Now this is a picture heavy post so apologies in advance.

So first of all there is a Tangle Teezer, now these come in all shapes and sizes. The original one is the perfect size for a festival when you don’t want to take up to much space. It will also fit perfectly in my gym bag once V Fest is over. Now these retail at £10.60 and you can get them here.

2016-08-08 14.14.18Next up there are some Festival Face Stencils. Now I cannot wait to use these, I’m a total fan of neon paint on faces to lots of glitter. These things will definitely be used to the fullest. These are by beauty boulevard and retail at £4.95 and you can get yours from here.

Now I am so excited to use this, I’ll post a proper picture when i’ve opened it properly but the shade is Disco Kiss Go. Now its by beauty boulevard once again and retails at £6.50. You get 3g of refined glitter which is definitely a perfect amount. You can get yours from here.

 

2016-08-08 14.14.35Now this is the last item from Beauty boulevard. It is Glitter Lips. The shade is Guilty Rose, it is a coppery colour of what i can describe and is absolutely gorgeous. I’m not sure if i’m brave enough to wear it for a whole day yet but this will certainly be on during the night performances!! These retail at £12.50 and you can get them from here.

 

2016-08-08 14.49.16 Up next are these really cute items from NPW. I absolutely adore the packaging, it’s so vibrant and definitely has the festival vibe. Tissues and Hand wipes are a must for festivals, so these will be staying in my bumbag!! Now I cannot find a price for these but you can find them here.

2016-08-08 14.15.30Next up is Batiste Dry Shampoo plus heavenly volume. Now this will be a lifesaver, festivals aren’t a place where washing your hair happens. The fear of having something chucked over you, mixed in with the rain which may happen is not the one. This retails at £6.49 and you can get this from here.

2016-08-08 14.16.02This might be my favourite thing from the kit, the packaging is so cute! This is a necklace from Me and Zena. Now I love the entire range and i’m so excited that i finally own a piece from there. The lovely lilac colour is beautiful and it will be a finishing touch to any outfit i wear. 2016-08-08 14.16.27Burt’s Bees lip balms have to be my favourite thing. They are so easy to carry around so I always have one with me. Dry lips are something which I hate and at a festival you are bound to get them so this lip balm will be essential. These retail at £3.99 and you can get yours here.

2016-08-08 14.17.51Last but not least is this Bowie t-shirt. A festival would not be a festival without a singer or band t-shirt lets be honest. This one is gorgeous and is very comfy. This is from Rock Off and can be purchased from here.

York 10k

Hey everyone,

So I did it and I’m alive to tell the tale! First thing first, when you have to wake up at 7 on a Sunday morning to run your brain is very confused. It took me a while to wake up but luckily everything was laid out ready and our boobs were already blown up! 

Pre race vibes 
So that was us pre-race, all smiles raring to go. The walk to where the run started was amusing, we had a few people staring at us but we had boobs on our back so I guess that was a given. 

Everything was organised pretty well and the run for us started quite promptly. We got to run around York centre which was really nice and well a very different way to see the city. We got to run alongside the river and past the Minster which was pretty impressive. 

Just after we hit 6k I started to feel it in my left knee but refusing to stop I kept pushing through. It doesn’t matter how slow you go aslong as you don’t stop! Hitting the 8k mark was amazing we could hear the music and we knew we were close. My knee however had other ideas and wanted to give way. I was not letting this stop me though as I’d got this far. Passing the finish line in 1 hour 22 minutes was an amazing feeling!! The adrenalin going through my body was just racing.

As you can see the boobs were absolutely shattered and we needed a nap! As a team we managed to raise £450 for Coppafeel! Which is brilliant! I am so proud to have been able to do this alongside my fellow Boobette Hannah and her sister Sally. 

But flushed but still smiling!!

What I learnt in July

Hey everyone,

So it’s August, how crazy is that?! I feel like this year is just flying past without many stops. It’s my birthday month though so hopefully this won’t go quick!! July was a slightly crazy month for me and I definitely learnt a lot so I thought I’d share a few things I learnt.

1 – It’s okay to say no.

So last month everything just seemed to hit me at once and I was trying to please everyone by agreeing to take on extra. After burning the candle at both ends for the first few weeks, I had to make a choice. It was either continue this way and end up ill or take a step back and stop trying to take on everything at once. Once I started to make consistent choices and prioritise what was important and go from there.

2 – Me time is essential.

Taking time out, wether it be half hour or an evening is essential for both your physical and mental health. Sometimes the world just gets far to crazy and things can get out of control so taking sometime just to come back and centre yourself. Recently my ‘me time’ has been reading and going for walks. Getting back into reading was something which I really wanted to do so i’m happy about that. I cannot wait to share with you the books i’ve been reading.

3 – Organisation is key.

Well this really ties back in with number 1. I’ve always used my phone’s calendar to organise work and events but towards the end of last month i bought a diary. This is one of the best purchases I made last month as it’s helped me visualise my week and the weeks ahead. I’ve been able to plan in times seeing family/friends I don’t normally get to see which makes me happy.

It’s the final countdown

Hey everyone,

Well this morning I received an email telling me I have 6 weeks until the Great North Run and next week is York 10k. I haven’t done a charity/competitive run for quite sometime so nerves are definitely making a feature.

I do an occasional run around my local park which is 5k all in, apart from that I have a love/hate relationship with cardio. At the gym, I do weight training which I absolutely love and I do hot yoga to aid flexibility and strength. I’ve started upping my training during warm up at the gym by doing longer times on the treadmill but I’m going to start road running/park running this week. (If you see someone running like she has no clue be sure to say hi). All joking a side though, as much as I am dreading it, I cannot wait to push through my current boundaries and hopefully raise more money for the charities which are close to my heart.

5 ways to combat a low mood

Hey everyone,

So we all have those days when a bad mood can surround us and take over our mind and body completely. For some people, the weather can cause this, sometimes its the work/life battle and just the daily stresses of everyday life!

For myself, these moods can throw me off my day to day routine and leave me feeling at rock bottom. So I thought I’d type up a post with a few things that help me when I’m feeling at my lowest.

  1. Tea – Tea is one of my first point of call when I’m feeling low as my nan always says ‘A cup of tea makes everything better’ and it might be psychological but it’s stuck. I think because if I’m having a day where getting up seems impossible, making a cup of tea is my first step, as then I’ve got up made it and even if I go back to where I was the first movement has been made. cup-happy-quote-tea-Favim.com-849345
  2. Music – Listening to music always helps me feel better. I think this is partially because when I used to play the flute it was my outlet for everything. I was able to let go of whatever I was feeling through playing. Having a good sing along to some cheesy pop or Disney never hurt anyone at all and it is almost always guaranteed to put a smile on your face. Unknown
  3. Do something for yourself – Paint your nails, do your makeup or hair. Do something that makes you feel a little more you. It may sound silly but when I’ve tided up my eyebrows and sorted out my hair I feel ready to take on the world! It’s that little boost that makes me feel better. 10499222_1388871034767962_246267167_n
  4. Go outside – Sometimes going outside and getting fresh air is just what you need. In a study for Environmental science and technology, they found that getting outside and moving even for just five minutes a day can help improve your mood. 2016-07-23 17.53.18
  5. Exercise – Exercise is definitely important when hoping to rid a mood. Exercise equals endorphins and that means little balls of happiness are created (this is how the children I work with describe it and i think its perfect). For myself I will either go the gym and stick my headphones in and spend an hour just training or I will go along to a Yoga class at IGO-Yoga as it enables me to disconnect from the world around me and clear my head. I will be posting more on my gym routines and yoga in the next few weeks.  IMG_6287

Comfort zone demolished 

Hey everyone,
So those who know me know how much I love my home comforts and everything like that. They also know how clumsy I am which is definitely a highlight for them. As I mentioned in my previous post I wanted to do more for charity this year after what I’d done last year.  I’m once again pushing through my comfort zone to do something out of my normal everyday again.

After conquering the Great Wall of China I am now doing a few smaller events for Coppafeel!. On the 7th August I am running the York 10k with a giant boob on my back. I am doing this with one of my fellow Boobettes and China trekker Hannah. Then i’m running the Great North Run. Running is probably an exaggeration of what I will be doing and I’m just hoping to cross the finish line in one piece. I will be running this with my friend Gabby (You can read here why she is determined to run it).  Finally for the moment that is, I am climbing Ben Nevis the weekend after the GNR, if i survive this one it will be a miracle and half!! This is alongside some of my amazing team China people who I cannot wait to see!  On The Great Wall of China

So once again I’m doing something out of my norm, I hate cardio and try to avoid it at all costs at the gym but you have to break through your comfort zones in order to move forward! So today I became a boobette 

Hey everyone,

So today I travelled to London to become a Boobette for Coppafeel! 

For those who don’t know Coppafeel! is a breast cancer awareness charity, based in London. They focus on promoting early detection of breast cancer by encouraging women to regularly check their breasts.

Being a boobette involves attending events, talking to schools, organisations and youth groups educating about the importance of getting to know your boobs and making it a habit! The aim is to inspire people and get them thinking about their lives and bodies and educating them along the way!

Personally I haven’t been diagnosed with breast cancer. I had a scare the other year which resulted with a benign lump being found. My mom has fought breast cancer three times beginning when I was first at secondary school. 

I met some of my fellow boobette recruits today & we were able to share stories and learn about how to spread the Coppafeel! Message.

New Year, New Blog, Same Me.

So I’ve decided to start blogging again as one of my ways forward this year. It isn’t a resolution as I know I don’t stick to them. It’s a new year and instead of resolutions i’m going to bring what I learnt last year forward and act on them. Last year, I found myself after a series of lessons I’d learnt along the way. Here are 10 things i learnt last year:

  1. Say Yes to opportunities. I had some of the most amazing experiences last year thanks to just saying Yes. I taught in India for two weeks and trekked the Great Wall of China for CoppaFeel!
  2. Say No when it needs to be said. To say I burnt the candle at both ends last year is an understatement. I tried to please everyone and take on as much as I could possibly do and it really took its toll.
  3. You can’t please everyone. Taking from number 2, you definitely can’t please everyone. I was definitely the sort of person who would try at all costs to keep everyone happy and sacrifice my own time and wellbeing to do so. I’ve learnt it can’t be done and it’s not good for myself as well I burnt myself out.
  4. Take care of myself. Both mentally and physically. When i found out I was Trekking the Great Wall of China, I started training again and kept it up since being home. It’s the best thing I’ve done. I feel healthier in myself and it’s helped me feel less stressed. This blog will be showcasing parts of my fitness lifestyle.
  5. Spend time outdoors. Spending time outdoors is essential. It’s nice to just step outside and go walking (running is also good but I’m not keen on cardio). Being outdoors really helped to clear my thoughts and prioritise the important things which is why every weekend I now try to go out walking.
  6. Travel more. Now last year I visited four different countries. I taught in India, visited schools in Dubai, spent two weeks in Orlando and trekked the Great Wall of China (I probably will mention this a lot so forgive me now). Travelling broadens your mind, It has opened my eyes to different cultures and different lifestyles. I have so many more places on my list which i cannot wait to visit and cross off.
  7. Read more. Since deciding to finish my uni course, I noticed how little time I had spent reading. I’m a great believer in reading, I buy books as presents for people especially my god-children. I hope to leave my phone aside a few evenings a week and pick up a good book.
  8. Spend more time with family and friends. As I used to try and keep up everything at once, I did neglect spending time with family and friends. This year has started off well with this, I’m spending more time with my family, seen my friends more in a social setting rather than somewhere where i’d be constantly on the go.
  9. Raise awareness for charities that mean a lot to me. I’ve been really lucky with the support i’ve had over the years and well I would love to be able to give back. This year i’ve got some exciting things happening with CoppaFeel! which I can’t wait to blog about.
  10. Blog more. Last year, I said I was going to blog but it just didn’t go to plan. When I did write, I found that it helped and gave me a balance between everything. So this year, i plan to take on that by blogging more. It will mainly be lifestyle with a hint of fitness and beauty thrown in but I am excited to start this new venture.
